USDA export sales data show robust recent buying by China, with 362,067 metric tons of U.S. sorghum sales and commitments reported directly to China in the current marketing year, plus an additional 683,000 metric tons listed as “unknown” destination that market participants broadly view as China-bound. Combined, that puts recent China-related sorghum sales at roughly 1.0 million metric tons over the past two weeks — the equivalent of about 15 Panamax-size vessels and roughly 20% of China’s historical annual imports of U.S. sorghum.

While sales reporting can lag when volumes are booked under “unknown,” the overall takeaway is positive: export demand for U.S. sorghum is strong, and additional sales are expected to be reflected in upcoming reports as year-end and early-January data are finalized.
