Dairy producers have just days remaining to enroll in the Dairy Margin Coverage Program, with signup set to close this Thursday, February 26. The National Milk Producers Federation is encouraging farmers across the country to take advantage of the program as part of a broader risk management plan designed to help operations navigate volatile milk prices and fluctuating feed costs.

“Dairy Margin Coverage is an essential part of a dairy farmer’s business resilience,” said Gregg Doud, the president and CEO of NMPF. “Smaller farmers gain important protection against lower margins, while larger farmers gain catastrophic coverage at little or even no cost.”

Doud noted that this enrollment period marks the first opportunity for producers to sign up since the program was reauthorized last year. The updated version includes several coverage improvements, along with a 25 percent premium reduction for farmers who choose to make a long-term commitment to the program.

“Farmers can benefit greatly from participating in a program that has literally helped thousands of dairies,” Doud said.

Producers interested in enrolling are encouraged to work directly with their local Farm Service Agency office to complete the necessary paperwork before the deadline. Industry leaders stress that DMC remains a cornerstone safety net tool as dairy operations continue managing tight margins and ongoing market uncertainty.
